Orville Etnier was the oldest licensed auctioneer in the State of Tennessee upon his passing at 97 years old and was involved in the auction business for over 59 years. He began his career as a co-owner of a livestock auction company in Royal Center, Indiana. Weary of Indiana winters, he moved his family to Tennessee in 1962. He was a farmer and dairyman for several years, but becoming an auctioneer was his dream. Before he became a licensed auctioneer, he worked for Don Smith Auctions and Delta Auction. After he was licensed, he began his own company, Pro Auction & Realty. He conducted several estate auctions in addition to auctions for such companies as Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools, South Central Bell, Town of Collierville, U-Haul and many mini storage companies to name a few. He had an extensive knowledge of antiques, farm equipment and those “one of a kind” items. He enjoyed meeting people and made many friends since to him a stranger was just someone he hadn’t met yet. Orville’s wife Ruth had one of the largest button collections in West Tennessee, which she collected over several decades.
